Janine Faber the RD from Meijer came in and talk to us. She covers Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Lexington areas. I loved hearing her talk about her job although I don't see myself doing it. The goal of the Meijer Healthy Living program is to increase sales and promotes customer loyalty by creating and communicating health solutions and product knowledge to shoppers. The RDs that work at Meijer host community events such as health fairs, expos, presentations, and cooking demos, have in-store events like disease management, taste of Meijer, media events like talking on the radio or on tv and have publications such as the Healthy Living Naturally Magazine. She gave us two the April and May additions and it was fun to read and see the different articles and recipes they as a team create. Janine and another member also post on pinterest which I thought was really neat but pinterest is awesome! She also talked about NuVal Nutrition Scoring System. I love this program and I wish every grocery store had this. NuVal really would help shoppers buy more nutritious foods and I think it would help improve the health of the community as a whole. NuVal also shows that you don't always have to pay more for nutritious products because alot of the time they are cheaper anyway! You can't beat that! Janine and the team of RDs are funded through sponsorships. Each company sends a list of products that can sponsor them such as McCormick, Plantarts, and the company will pay to be apart of the program then Meijer will try and incorporate them in their media segments. The team will look at the product and look at the NuVal score to make sure it is healthy to advertise
